Transformer & receiver
With a transformer, also known as a drive, you make sure that your LED lighting gets the right amperage. It is possible that the current directly from the wall socket is too high, which the porch spotlights cannot handle.
Waterproof drivers
When you are going to connect a driver for your porch LED lighting, we advise you to take a good look at the IP value of the driver. Many drivers are not suitable for outdoor use. If the transformer is not watertight, you can still place it outside using a watertight junction box. This junction box ensures that you can install the driver without having to worry about rainwater. The junction boxes are also very suitable for connecting cables to each other.
In addition to the drivers that cannot withstand moisture or water, there are also a number of transformers that are waterproof. With these drivers it is therefore not necessary to purchase an extra junction box. In this way they can be placed in the open air.
Why is a driver necessary?
As you may already know, LED lighting uses a lower wattage than a traditional halogen or incandescent lamp. LED lighting therefore also needs a lower current. The current that comes directly from the socket has 230 volts. This is often too high for LED lighting. A transformer converts this current to a lower current. This ensures that the LED lights get a constant current, so that the LED lights will not blink.
